Customized Hybrid Golf Clubs : Can They Improve Your Game?
If you have noticed other golfers at your local course talking about utility clubs, then what they are really referring to are hybrid golf clubs. These clubs are easier to use than traditional golf clubs and that is why they have gained notable popularity recently. Because they are so much easier to use and hit with, most weekend golfers are using them, and now you will find many pros touring the circuit using hybrid golf clubs also.
What makes hybrid clubs so unique is that they meld together attributes of irons and woods into their design. The combination of these features helps to get the ball airborne but also curbs the effects of a mis-hits. However, these are not the only benefits to using hybrid clubs.
Hybrid golf clubs will typically serve as a replacement for your long irons including your 2, 3, 4 and possibly even your 5 iron. Hybrid golf clubs are usually said to be easier to use because most people are comparing them to the long irons that they normally replace in your golfing bag. You might be asking why hybrid clubs are better than your regular irons?
For one, there’s not much of a back to a normal iron. You could weight a long iron on the back if you wanted to, but that normally means that that long iron would have an expanded back side. You can’t move much weight back if there isn’t any. Because of this, many manufacturers have started to “fatten” the back of their clubs to make them easier to hit. So hybrids that look similar to irons will have a bulge on the back of them. And this moves the weight further onto the back of the iron to help with your hitting.
This allows them have have weight on the back as well on the outside of the club. However, manufacturers that make their hybrid golf clubs resemble fairway wood are able to move the weight even farther back because of how large the club is. These types of hybrid golf clubs are not as hard to use as a traditional fairway wood so it makes it a lot easier to hit the ball.
Another noticeable feature of hybrid clubs is that they a better center of gravity that is much lower than a traditional golf club. If the center of gravity of a club is lower, than the ball will have an easier time getting up in the air. The launch angle of the ball is increased without having to actually change the loft of the club. Now, you might not actually be able to see this when you swing, but you will be able to see it with how well ball travels.
A hybrid with a loft that is the same as an iron will launch the ball higher because the weight is further back and the center of gravity is lower.
This is important when purchasing a hybrid golf club as the lofts may not be comparable to the club you want to replace. Some players love hybrid golf clubs while others think they are trash. Whatever your opinion may be, it is a simple fact that hybrid golf clubs get the ball in the air easier.
